Jan 31st Recipes Recipes 3 Easy Recipe Ideas to Beat the Breakfast Boredom By Stacey Segal, RD One thing I know to be true. We eat with our eyes and our brain. Making simple nutritious food look fun and novel helps kids try new tastes. Not only that, but our language matters. Instead of asking your child if they want ‘fruit on their cereal’, tell them to get ready because for breakfast ‘we’re having purple parfaits’! This is akin to an adult reading the description of food on a menu. Would you prefer to order ‘salad’, or rather ‘fresh, crisp leafy greens’? Sometimes we get stuck in a rut of offering the same foods to our kids over and over, without changing the way it looks. They can get bored the same way adults do. Perfect or Instagram worthy food is not the goal. Keep it simple and try to change it up with these easy fun ideas for mixing up the narrative at your breakfast table. 1. In a Pinch Purple Parfait What you’ll need:½ cup unsweetened plain yogurt 1 Cerebelly Beet Carrot Blueberry or Cerebelly Purple Carrot Blueberry 3 Tbsp flaked bran cereal (or any low sugar cereal you have) ½ cup Frozen blueberries (or any frozen fruit you have) Directions:1. Defrost frozen fruit in a microwaveable bowl, ‘just until’ defrosted, but not warm. You want them to still be cold. If you’ve heated too much, put them in the fridge for a few minutes. Even better if you can defrost them in the fridge the night before. 2. In a clear cup or bowl (so you can see the food through it), begin layering your parfait in this order: YogurtCerebelly Beet Carrot Blueberry pureeSprinkle of cerealSpoonful of defrosted fruit3.
